Just kidding. I'm righteously above sibling rivalry. Just kidding again, I am totally not. Ironically this morning I was reading in Alma about the fierce loyalty in righteous families. That in Alma 43: 47 they defend the family even unto bloodshed. So watch out, I'd go to battle for you. I really do love and miss everyone. Erin sent me a picture of the snazzy vests! Looking sharp!
So it was an interesting week with lots going on. The member that was in the hospital actually ended up passing away on Saturday morning. It was a bit of a shock but it was also a blessing. She wasn't in a good state of mind and really needed to just be home. We actually ran into a man at a bus stop last night that had just put his father into a retirement home, (the one we volunteer at) and said he didn't want to talk to us. But then he clearly needed to talk as he kept telling us what was going on. It was nice to be his venting board for a few minutes. I have learned that when people say they don't want to talk, they really just don't want to be talked at. They want you to listen.
Okay I love this area, but holy there are some crazy people. Then I realize, I am one of those people. For example, Sister Reese thought it would be a good idea to buy pop corn. After our doughnut/ highway excursion I thought we had agreed to avoid carrying food around but such is life. Anyways, we have a giant bag of pop corn and are currently trying to contact some less actives in a nice area of town. Since it's nicer, we didn't want to knock on doors carrying a giant paper bag of buttery goodness so we proceed to hide said bag in bushes until the visit is over. This was going great until one of our less actives said they could give us a ride to our next area. We were goign around the house to meet Sister Carter by the garage door and during this, Sister Reese yelled, "Hurry! Grab my popcorn!" So I, in my Laura Ingles mindset of endurance jumped across her flower gardens in a ninja leap while wearing a skirt and sprinted towards the bushes. I got the popcorn before the garage door opened but apparently Sister Carter saw me leap across the flowers and run for the bushes randomly so she might remain a less active for a just a few more transfers... On the bright side, Sister Reese got to keep her pop corn and snacked on it all during conference. I on the other hand, don't like popcorn anymore.
Oh and while we were volunteering at the Lutheran Home, the fire alarm went off so we had to wheel 15 seniors with dementia into the cafeteria while the alarm was going off. That was excitement. One lady told me if I didn't make the sirens stop, she would have me fired. They really are a sweet bunch...ha actually they really are. One man named Ellroy always winks at us. We joked that since we had to help them play the Wii for the activity, it was God's way of helping us stay obedient to mission rules and volunteer.
I loved conference and am excited to read the talks again when they are published. My favorite was by Elder Christopherson when he spoke of our personal responsibly. Saturday morning sessions I think are always my favorite. Possibly because I usually napped through most of Sunday usually. But, be so proud! I stayed awake during all the sessions.
Oh Dad, a part member family who we work with a ton took us out to supper on Friday. I ordered chicken...but it was like half a chicken! It seriously looked like they had just sliced a little one in half and fried it up on my plate. It was delicious but holy, a lot to eat. I ate it all and the next day Sister Reese and I were planning how to handle eating a double dinner for appointments and I said I can't sister, I just ate half a flipping chicken! She keeps making fun of me for that. Constantly quoting that whenever we are full. Maybe I won't order chicken anymore...
Sorry this is getting long but we had the coolest lesson with the Bye family. We got to talk about how Christ always taught among the sinners because he knew that is who needed the message. In the church, we serve and we teach with no strings attached because that is what Christ did and does for us. We are all sinners with the same purpose, to help invite other to come unto Christ. As we do so, we ourselves are turned towards him and can be made whole. It was really cool to have that click for me. God does love us.
So from your chicken loving, Laura Ingles who now dislikes popcorn, I love you!
