March 2, 2015

I am basically a ghost busting champ. When I have a vacuum, sweat pants on and my hunter green gum boots I am invincible. Ha or at least that's what I have to tell myself because whilst Grandma Rekow was at the temple, we decided we'd enlist ourselves in some secret service and vacuum up some of the spider webs down stairs by the furnace since she said she hated seeing the webs when she fired up. We also scrubbed the floors and stacked the wood. The worst things about webs is once you notice one you notice all of them and it was a hilarious sight as Sister Payne and I walked around the house like ninjas getting as much as we could, finding some doozie sized spiders in the process. We told our district leader and he joked not to tell Grandma because she'd find a way to have us eat them. Ha but bless Grandma because she is awesome and doesn't need anything worldly to make her happy. And she is a good cook, but I can't stress enough that if we ever go back to visit her, never ever ever ask what's in it.

Oh do we know a Craig and Linda Bennett? A ward member is good friends with them. Also, Carma Thompson served her mission here and my Bishop here remembers her! How cool is that?

We are still meeting as many people as possible, loving getting to know both wards and working with a lot of less active families.

It's a whole new ball game up here compared to Milwaukee but it's been so fun to meet our investigators and try to find new ones in the Gresham area. We were in a place called Tigerton (I love the town names here) and we couldn't find an address so we pulled into the gas station and asked about a road. It was hilarious because the attendants immediately asked, who are you trying to see? What's the last name? A lady behind us in line said oh that's Alisha they are looking for. Turn left and it's the second ranch style house you'll see. This place is awesome. And also really willing to tattle on their neighbors which I appreciate as a missionary. And the people we followed up with were all awesome. This big burly man with tattoos answered the door and told us to come in. I'm like great, I really am going to get kidnapped. Curse my youthful look. But then he pulled out two chairs and a darling wife and said they'd been waiting for us to come back. They ended up needing to leave for an appointment not long after but stay tuned, they seem cool. And are not kidnappers so win!

We also went and checked out Head Quarters, a store close to the reservation that has all things fun and native. The Sisters have been working with one of the store clerks there. He is a South American man who lived in Germany and ended up in Wisconsin. Quite the story, he also really loves to study theology and is crazy well educated. He's someone you can't peg at a first glance.

There is a lot going on in the next couple weeks. We have Zone Conference in Marionette, Zone Training in Green Bay, Exchanges in Wausa, and then we get to hear from an apostle in Milwaukee! So I'll get to go back to my old area and hear an apostle speak. It means we will be driving a lot so really pray for the deer and our dinner plates.

This is getting lengthy and I apologize so I'll just add some pictures. Know that I love you and this gospel and can't wait to hear from you!
This is the wood pile after it comes through the chute above my head. Previous Elder have slid down the chute to scare Grandma while stacking. This is my new life goal.
