December 1

Okay being a missionary during the holidays is the best. Because every other time of year, people think you are a little crazy town banana pants (thanks for the phrase Erin) for always wanting to talk about Christ on the bus, but now I'm a solid 9 on the normal scale compared to the other crazies who are still just talking to themselves. Win!

Thanksgiving was great! People here don't appreciate real mashed potatoes like we do but the meal was fantastic and the family, even better. We stayed with the Larson's and they are an awesome couple whom both served missions. We helped make a meal for a family that is a little down and out and it was really nice to get to go and deliver it to them.

If you haven't watched the new video called He is the Gift, go ahead and do so because it's amazing. This transfer, we have made a combined effort to be more unified in our ward as missionaries and have been meeting with our Elders to come up with a Christmas message to share with families this month. Elder Mann, our new Elder from England shared an awesome insight. We decided to show that video and talk about the Wise Men who sought after Christ following the star that shone the light that would guide them. Elder Mann talked about how the wise men where willing to travel crazy distances to find Christ and then asked, how far are we willing to go to seek Christ?

I love that question and have been thinking of it a lot this week. Then, a less active whom we have been trying to get to church came. This was great except it meant we had to host a Gospel Principles class. This is also great except that all of our ward missionary counsel is gone this week for the holidays so I had 35 seconds to prepare a lesson on prayer. I prayed that it would make sense and our less active would feel the spirit. The lesson was great, not because of me as a teacher but because of the comments people were willing to share and invite the spirit with. It was humbling to see that Christ and his ability to bless us is just a simple prayer away. Not a crazy distance, just however far it is for us to get down on our knees.

I also really appreciate how Mom and Dad made sure we got to call Grandma and Grandpa every Sunday growing up because it showed me how important it is to always call home. That's my favorite story to share on how anxious our Father is in Heaven for us to call home any time we can.

On a lighter note. I'm pretty sure a squirrel is living in our roof. Apparently it's not that uncommon here for them to find a way into the attics. Seriously, if you could see this place in the summer, you would think you were in a Dinsey movie and a princess would come waltzing in singing at any time for her little critter friends to either clean or sew something. We called our land lady and the issue is being investigated but whenever I leave the house, I always bid farewell to the squirrel. At least I hope it's a squirel. Because we all know how well I do with mice. Ha I did find out Sister Pope is terrified of spiders though. She always dropped a table whilst climbing some stairs after I pointed out a spider crawling on it. To be fair, the thing was massive. The deal now is, I'll deal with spiders and she gets to deal with the mouse if there is one.

It's been really fun this week, especially since I rediscovered the cd called The Work by the Nashville Tribute Band that did the Joseph Smith songs. Clay tried to introduce them to me, but I didn't fully appreciate it at the time. It's like the sound track to my day now. We also had the worlds coolest lesson with the Armstrong's on recognizing the Spirit, and Melissa is going to come to the ward Christmas party...and drum roll! We had to give Vincent to the YSA Elders (who are actually the assistants to the president) and...he's getting baptized in January! Woot woot!

I learned I'm a little stubborn. I know, I know...surprise! Did you also know I like cilantro? And also don't like humidity? Ha luckily God can make all our weaknesses become strengths and I am so excited to be our here serving a mission. I also have a firm believe in obedience. It's like Nike. Just do it. If you open your mouth, miracles happen. I love you and can't wait to see your faces!

Sister Kaytie Cook whom loves you more than cilantro!
